Update (3/3/23):
Applications are open for this academic year! All applicants must also submit an application to the visiting clerkship via the VSLO service. Please submit applications by April 1st. Applications submitted after this date will be considered if scholarships remain available.
Rush Emergency Medicine proudly serves one of the most diverse urban communities in the country. We strive to uphold the mission of Rush University, and create a learning community where students, faculty, residents, and fellows of all backgrounds feel welcome and supported. We partner with the Rush Medical College Visiting Scholars program to offer fourth-year students from groups underrepresented in medicine the opportunity to experience emergency medicine at Rush.
The scholarship will provide a $2000 stipend which may be used for travel, housing, application fees, and incidental expenses related to the month-long rotation. The stipend will be provided following successful completion of the rotation. Students will be responsible for their own housing and travel arrangements. In addition to financial support, opportunities will be available for mentorship from both attending and resident physicians, for participation in community service initiatives, and interacting with Rush organizations dedicated to advancing our diversity and inclusion mission.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY:
This scholarship opportunity is available to students belonging to a group historically underrepresented in medicine who are currently enrolled, full-time medical students and have completed their third year required courses. Students must be in good academic standing at an LCME or COCA accredited institution, must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and must meet the same institutional requirements as for all rotating medical students.
HOW TO APPLY:
Please submit your application through the Rush Visiting Scholars Program. Interested individuals must also submit an application to our visiting clerkship application through VSLO to be considered.
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a stipend for all of our deserving applicants. Please note that you will still be considered for our visiting student elective experience even if you are not chosen to receive the scholarship, and we hope that you will still consider us during your residency application process.
