Important update for applicants (5/8/23):
All visiting student rotations are full at this time. We remain open on VSLO and will continue to maintain a waiting list, and we expect that some movement on the waiting list will continue. We will be unable to consider applications received less than 4 weeks before the rotation start date due to documentation processing time.
For all applicants interested in a place on the waiting list, please submit your application via VSLO. Please note that we will have a significant change in the application process from previous years. We no longer require a separate pre-application through our website and ask that you apply via VSLO. All applications which meet the standard requirements will be considered.
If you have applied prior to April 15th, you should have received communication from our clerkship coordinator, Karmen Howard regarding your status. Applicants who applied after April 15th will receive further communication from Karmen Howard when updates are available.
Notification of rotation acceptance will occur via email, and a response will be necessary within 7 days of rotation offer. VSLO acceptance offers will occur only after your rotation is confirmed via email correspondence.
We are open to MD or DO candidates, but we are unable to accept any applications from international students and those applications will not be considered. We will be offering rotations from June-November (rotation dates listed below) and will again be offering our scholarship for Underrepresented Minorities in Medicine.
Thank you for your interest in a visiting student clerkship at Rush University Medical Center!
We are happy to host visiting students to give interested students an opportunity to rotate through and see the department which serves as our main education site and experience the educational opportunities at Rush firsthand. Visiting students will rotate through Rush University Medical Center in downtown Chicago.
As a student rotating in our Emergency Department, you will function as a sub-Intern on your clinical shifts, and you will have the opportunity to care for patients of all ages. During this 4-week rotation, you will complete 12 shifts and you will attend a suture lab, airway lab, hands-on simulation sessions, and resident education sessions. We will also provide a Standard Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) for this rotation, and you will have an opportunity to interview for our residency program while you are in Chicago.
Note: this is a separate rotation from the Cook County (Stroger) visiting student rotation. For students interested in a visiting student rotation at Cook County Hospital, please visit: http://www.cookcountyem.com/students/
