We’re open and accepting applications for the 2026-2027 Academic Year! Apply via our listing on VSLO (listed as Rush Medical College). Please note, we are unable to offer a rotation from 11/23/2026-12/18/2026 as stated on our VSLO listing, but we are happy to consider applications for all other listed blocks!
For applications submitted by April 1st, you will receive notification of rotation acceptance by April 15th. For applications received after April 1st, we will continue to review applications and offer rotations on a rolling basis. We will not be able to confirm any rotations until final decisions have been made after the April 1st deadline.
Important to note – If you are accepted you will receive communication FIRST via e-mail from our clerkship coordinator, Karmen Howard. Please note this will precede any notification from VSLO and please respond to this email to confirm if you will be accepting the rotation. Response is required to confirm acceptance within 7 days.
Thank you for your interest in a visiting student clerkship at Rush University Medical Center!
We are happy to host visiting students to give interested students an opportunity to rotate through and see the department which serves as our main education site and experience the educational opportunities at Rush firsthand. Visiting students will rotate at Rush University Medical Center in downtown Chicago for all their shifts, and there will be opportunities to visit or experience our other sites during the rotation.
As a student rotating in our Emergency Department, you will function as a sub-Intern on your clinical shifts, and you will have the opportunity to care for patients of all ages. During this 4-week rotation, you will complete 12 shifts and you will attend a wound care lab, airway lab, hands-on simulation sessions, and resident education sessions. We will also provide a Standard Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) for this rotation, and you will have an opportunity to interview for our residency program while you are in Chicago.
Note: this is a separate rotation from the Cook County (Stroger) visiting student rotation, and the visiting student rotation at Rush is not affiliated with the Cook County EM residency. For students interested in a rotation at Cook County Hospital, please visit: http://www.cookcountyem.com/students/
To apply, please submit an application through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) service provided by AAMC. We are happy to consider MD or DO candidates, but are unable to accept any international students.
